MakeOffices Signs Long-Term Lease at The Wharf

Creating an innovative shared workplace environment at 800 Maine in 45,000 square feet of space

WASHINGTON, D.C. (JUNE 15, 2016) – Hoffman-Madison Waterfront, the master developer of the world-class, mixed-use waterfront community The Wharf, today announced that MakeOffices, an innovative platform where the workplace meets the sharing economy, signed a long-term lease at 800 Maine for 45,000 square feet of commercial space.

“The Wharf is invigorating the Washington, D.C., waterfront and creating an ideal neighborhood for both the city’s movers and shakers and a new MakeOffices community,” said MakeOffices CEO, Raymond Rahbar. “We focus on creating collaborative and productive communities where our members can thrive in vibrant locations like The Wharf.”

“We are elated that MakeOffices is coming to The Wharf—vital to the entire Washington office environment as it continues to expand across new business models with a broad range of flexible spaces for Fortune 500 companies, entrepreneurs, business owners and start-ups, alike. MakeOffices is paramount to the proliferating new economies in the District of Columbia and it is thrilling that the company has chosen The Wharf for its expansion,” said Monty Hoffman, founder and CEO of PN Hoffman.

MakeOffices will lease the entire second and third floors of 800 Maine. This prime office location overlooks District Square – a high-energy retail and restaurant environment – adjacent to the waterfront activities of District Pier.

“We are delighted to welcome MakeOffices to The Wharf," said Amer Hammour, chairman of Madison Marquette. "The future of office space will be closely coupled with creative solutions for a rapidly evolving entrepreneurial society - something that MakeOffices brings to The Wharf. We are confident that MakeOffices’ co-working entrepreneurs will be drawn to The Wharf's unrivaled location, great amenities, shops and restaurants and extraordinary vision for a close-in active waterfront neighborhood," Mr. Hammour added.

MakeOffices members are part of a community of innovators that take advantage of a shared environment. Member companies enjoy the ability to meet other like-minded entrepreneurs and innovation-minded professionals through both formal networking events and shared onsite amenities. The communities offer flexibility with month-to-month leases and space options that grow with members' teams, without the burden and capital commitment of a long-term lease. By providing office infrastructure and all-inclusive amenities, including fast WiFi and 24/7 access, for a low monthly rate, members can save money and spend time growing their businesses. Onsite refreshments for members include coffee, tea, fresh fruit, beer, and filtered water.

By offering professional experiences in which entrepreneurs can grow their companies rapidly. The MakeOffices model appeals to organizations seeking an alternative to run-of-the-mill office experiences and traditional office leases, as well as the individuals and smaller organizations that are a critical backbone of every local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

800 Maine, set to deliver in the third quarter of 2017, is an eleven-floor, 220,000-square-foot Class A office building at the corner of 9th Street and Maine Avenue SW. Considered the “Gateway to The Wharf,” 800 Maine offers spectacular views of the Capitol Building and historic Washington Channel. It is being constructed to LEED-Gold Core and Shell standards which includes reduced water use, energy-efficient equipment and finishes and a vegetated green roof. MakeOffices joins the American Psychiatric Association and bipartisan lobbying firm Van Scoyoc Associates as tenants of 800 Maine.
